Golf people will play no matter what the weather is: cold, dreary, rain, heat; they do not care.
The CIAA Live the Legacy Golf Tournament, which was sold out by the way, was played Monday with 20 teams comprised of corporate partners, alumni, students, etc.
Winston-Salem State took first place in the team award with a 52 score, led by Curtis Walker, Andre Springs, Greg McCord and Andre Robinson. Livingstone was second and Claflin third.

Softball alumna Chelsea Holliday has a new gig. The four-year starter is the new head softball coach at Maryland Eastern Shore.
Holiday earned All-CIAA honors and represented Team USA at the 2012 Curacao Friendship Series. She was voted 2026 CIAA softball coach of the year after leading Bluefield State to its best season in program history.

Jackie Dolberry, the Pirates’ all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball history, died last week in Richmond. Dolberry was a member of the 1988 NCAA Division II National Championship team, one of only three DII HBCU teams to win a national title.
The 6-foot-1 guard could play every position on the team and finished with 2,727 points from 1985-88.

So, a little birdie told CC that interim athletics director Randy McClure will become permanent. McClure, who also is the women’s and men’s soccer coach, knows how to fundraise, the person said. And he’s made several cost-cutting moves in the athletics department.
If that’s the case, the permanent job is his ‘cause we know Shaw needs all the funds it can get.

Jacoby Radcliffe, above, had one heck of a showing at last week’s HBCU Swingman Classic.
Radcliffe was voted most valuable player after helping the American League defeat the National League, 6-1, before 16,000 fans at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
Ironically, Radcliff’s manager for the game was Southern alumnus and former Major League star Rickie Weeks who played for legendary Southern coach Roger Cador who passed earlier this month.
“That’s awesome to see,” Weeks said of Radcliffe’s MVP honors. “It’s good to be from a school like Southern that has a long lineage of tradition and success at the same time. I’ve known him for a couple of years now, and seeing him kind of come into his own is great.”
TSU
When Tennessee State announced it was instituting an ice hockey program three years ago, the HBCU sports world went crazy. No other HBCU had such a program, either on the Division I or II level.
Then things started to fall apart. The program’s inaugural 2025-26 season was pushed back a year due to money issues. OK, things happen. What’s another year?
Now, The Tennessean newspaper reported from an anonymous source that the 2026-27 season has been canceled. TSU President Dwayne Tucker wouldn’t comment on the rumor, which means it’s true. How embarrassingly sad for all involved.
