MEAC Commissioner Dennis Thomas is on the 2022 College Football Hall of Fame ballot. Thomas was an outstanding offensive lineman at the SWAC’s Alcorn State, where he was a two-time All-American (1972, ‘73) and the 1973 SWAC offensive player of the year – still the only OL to win the award.
North Carolina A&T assistant coach Chris Barnette is participating in the Bill Wash Diversity Coaching Fellowship. Barnette is with the Washington Football Team for the summer.
“I will have an opportunity to assist in organized team activities, mini-camp and training camp this summer,” Barnett said. “I look forward to growing as a coach, and I look forward to representing North Carolina A&T well.”
Barnette began as the Aggies’ quarterbacks coach. He was promoted in 2018 to offensive coordinator.
And speaking of the Aggies, the university swept both the end-of-season MEAC all-sports awards.
The Mary McLeod Bethune Women’s All-Sports Award and the Talmadge Layman Hill Men’s All-Sports Award recognizes the best women’s and men’s program in the conference.
The women totaled 80 points after winning regular-season division titles in basketball, bowling, volleyball and softball, and winning outdoor track and field.
The men amassed 63 points after division titles in basketball and outdoor track and field. NCA&T also posted the MEAC’s highest academic performance rate for the third straight season.
