Stingy defense propels VUU in NCAA Atlantic Regional
Number 7-seed Virginia Union earned a historic postseason victory Saturday. The Panthers defeated No. 2-seed West Liberty, 52–46, in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament Atlantic Region. It was VUU’s second win over West Liberty this season. The Panthers are the only CIAA team to ever defeat WLU.
Bobby Gardner was the leading scorer with 23 points.
"Hats off to West Liberty," VUU coach Jay Butler said. "You can really see why they're an NCAA Tournament team every year. They're a very talented team, and we have to put six or seven guys out there when we practice to simulate the pressure that they bring. I told the guys that we've been No. 1 in defense all year, and now it was time to show the world how good we are defensively."
VUU will face No. 6-seed Indiana (Pa.) University March 15 at 5 p.m.

WSSU advances to regional championship
The Rams (28-3) continue their remarkable season with a dominating 67-48 win over Gannon in the Atlantic Region Tournament. Maia Charles led WSSU with 19 points.
WSSU meets either No. 1 Indiana (Pa.) or Seton Hill in the championship game March 15 at 7 p.m.
