MEAC TOURNAMENT
Howard women’s and men’s basketball teams secured the No. 1 seed at the MEAC Tournament, which runs March 11-14 at the Norfolk Scope in Virginia.
For the first time in three years, there’s a new No. 1 seed on the women’s side. The Bison (13-1) claimed the top spot after defeating Norfolk State in the final regular season game. Howard’s only conference loss was at NSU.
The surprising Maryland Eastern Shore and the Spartans tied in second place, with the Hawks winning the tiebreaker and earning the No. 2 spot. NSU is No. 3, Coppin State No. 4, North Carolina Central No. 5 for the second straight year, Morgan State No. 6, Delaware State No. 7 and South Carolina State No. 8.
On the men’s side, Howard finished 11-3 in the conference. Morgan State is the No. 2 seed at 10-4 by defeating Coppin State in the regular season finale. N.C. Central and Norfolk State tied for third at 8-6. The Eagles won the tiebreaker for the No. 3 seed and the Spartans at No. 4. South Carolina State is No. 5. Maryland Eastern Shore, which won its first four conference games, went 1-9 the rest of the way, and is seeded sixth. Delaware State is last at No. 7. (Coppin State is ineligible for postseason play due to NCAA APR issues.)
