NCCU, Shaw go 2-0 on Saturday

N.C. Central QB Walker Harris.
North Carolina Central football set a program record with 760 yards of total offense in a 62-20 rout of archrival North Carolina A&T State Saturday in Greensboro. Last year’s 66-24 win over the Aggies “only” produced 530 offensive yards.
The Eagles amassed 399 passing yards and 366 rushing yards.
Redshirt senior quarterback Walker Harris completed 22 of 29 passes for 380 yards and three TDs, and zero interceptions. Coach Trei Oliver played three quarterbacks in the game.
Running backs Chris Mosley and Arthur Rodgers Jr. rushed for 168 yards and 149 yards, respectively, and five total touchdowns.
NCCU’s defense held NCAT to 294 total yards, including just 52 on the ground. It also intercepted the Aggie quarterbacks twice, both inside the red zone, and collected five sacks. Tomondrey Braxton led the Eagles with seven tackles, while A&T safety Jonathan Kimbrough led the game with 15 tackles (seven solo.)
NCCU travels to East Texas A&M next Saturday, while NCAT heads to the University of Maine.
Shaw Gets First Win
The Bears (1-2) gave new coach Lamar Manigo his first overall win and his first conference win in a 36-21 victory at Lincoln (Pa.) It appears Shaw has found its starting quarterback in true freshman Alexander Marsh, who completed 13 of 22 passes for 165 yards, two TDs and one interception.
But Marsh didn’t have to carry the burden alone. Trey Thorpe rushed for 113 yards and two TDs to lead the Bears’ total rushing attack of 215 yards while the defense held the Lions (0-4) to 70 yards rushing.
Shaw hosts Virginia Union Saturday at 1 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium.
