Shaw women open tourney

Posted by: Editor-Bonitta Best on Monday, February 25, 2019 at 12:00:00 am

Former colleagues Antonio Davis and Jacques Curtis will go head-to-head Monday night to open the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte. Shaw, the No. 7 seed in the Southern Division, will play Elizabeth City State, the No. 6 seed in the Northern Division, at 6 p.m. at Bojangles Coliseum. The two teams will meet for the second time this season. ECSU won the first matchup, 86-58, on Dec. 13, marking Davis’ first win over a Curtis-led team. He also was a Shaw assistant under Curtis. The winner will face No. 3 seed Winston-Salem State on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Both St. Augustine’s teams will play Lincoln (Pa.) on Tuesday. The Lady Falcons play at 12:10 p.m., while the men go at it at 6:40 p.m. A win by the Falcons would set up a third rematch with Shaw Wednesday night at 8:50.

Chowan vs. Johnson C. Smith men is the second Monday night game at 8.

In other news, St. Aug’s senior woman administrator Dot Neal was named to the all-tournament selection committee, which will choose the all-tourney teams, male and female most valuable players, and team sportsmanship awardees. Neal is the softball and bowling coach.
