No. 8 seed Winston-Salem State will face top seed Wheeling Jesuit in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament. The two squads previously met in 2015, with the Cardinals defeating the Rams in straight sets. WSSU (22-7) earned an automatic bid after upsetting defending champion Shaw. (Rams lost in three sets to Wheeling Jesuit.)

In the SWAC, Alabama State plays a familiar opponent in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. For the third straight season, the Hornets will take on Florida Thursday at 7 p.m. in the opening round. ASU is 28-10 and swept the SWAC for the second consecutive year (21-0). (Florida won in three sets.)

But the Hornets are not the only conference team to see their season extended. Alabama A&M got an invite to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship, which revived its tournament after a 22-year hiatus. AAMU is one of 32 teams selected and will meet Georgia Tuesday in the first round. (AAMU lost in three sets.)

In the SIAC, No. 8 Kentucky State will face No. 1 seed Florida Southern Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Thorobrettes (26-12) went undefeated in the SIAC championship, including knocking off No. 1 seed LeMoyne Owen. The match will be live streamed. “We are looking forward to a high-intensity match against Florida Southern,” coach Katrina English said.

Over in the MEAC, tourney champion Howard will play No. 1 Penn State on Friday, 7:30 p.m. The Bison won their third straight title. Also extending its season is Maryland Eastern Shore, which received an automatic bid to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship. The Hawks will meet West Virginia on Tuesday at 7 p.m. (Hawks lost in three sets.)
