27th annual Inner City Classic
The Metropolitan Junior Baseball League concluded its 27th annual Inner City Classic national baseball championships Tuesday in Greensboro’s War Memorial Stadium. The Greensboro Red Sox beat the Chester (Pa.) Diamondbacks 4-1 in the 19 and under division. Greensboro pitcher Jaylen Guy struck out four while allowing the one run. To secure the win, centerfielder Quez Holden singled and scored, and Justin Torres doubled and scored during the two-run fifth. “It’s been a long week, but we won this tournament with good situational hitting and base running and our pitcher did great by keeping our opponents off the bases,” head coach Torrey Pettiford said.
