Sports news, notes & rumors – 12/2
Oh, let the rumors begin. First, how many HBCU football openings are there? Three and counting. Grambling State, Morgan State and Alabama A&M will have new faces next season. So will NC Central; it just hasn’t been announced yet.
According to FootballScoop.com, Broderick Fobbs is Grambling’s next football coach. Fobbs played under legendary coach Eddie Robinson and is tight ends coach at McNeese State. His father was a coach at N.C. A&T. Hmmm.
Former Eagles coach Henry Frazier’s name keeps popping up for the Morgan State job. Frazier is from Maryland – he attended Bowie State – and reportedly has been trying to get back home.
AAMU has a new athletic director and you know what that means. Coaches had better have stellar records or else take your hat, your coat and L-E-A-V-E. All ADs want their own people so they can take credit for the success of the program.
For NCCU, there are so many rumors flying around it’s hard to keep up. But one source says a certain former CIAA coach who’s now in the SWAC has put his name in the hat. Guess who?
And in the non-HBCU category, Elon fired its coach late last week.
