CIAA makes history

Posted by: Editor-Bonitta Best on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 12:00:00 am

“Sisters are doing it for themselves.”Aretha Franklin

The CIAA and the its Sports Information Directors Association made history this week when an all-female SID board was elected for the next two seasons.

Shaw SID Jolisa Williams and Claflin SID Romanda Noble-Watson were reelected to their positions are president and secretary, respectively, while Johnson C. Smith SID Oralia Washington is the newbie as vice president.

Not only do the trio make CIAA SID history but as a conference, too. This makes the CIAA the only NCAA Division II conference with an all-female SID board. The conference also leads all DII institutions in female SIDs with five. In addition to the three mentioned here, Shalyn Moore is at Elizabeth City State and Cassandra Artis-Williams is at Virginia State. You can read more about them on the CIAA’s website at theciaa.com.

Missing HBCU football?

The MEAC reopened the wounds this week after announcing the preseason All-MEAC teams. In no surprise, North Carolina A&T senior running back Jah-Maine Martin was voted preseason offensive player of the year and teammate Kyin Howard, a linebacker, defensive player of the year. The Aggies are looking to win their fourth straight MEAC title before departing for the Big South Conference.
