The Rudy Abrams curse at Livingstone College continues.
LC football coach Daryl Williams has been released. Williams’ photo is still on the school’s website, but that doesn’t mean anything at LC, which doesn’t have a sports information director.
Williams just finished his fifth season and led the Blue Bears to a disappointing 4-6 record. After winning its first four games, LC subsequently lost its final six. LC’s four wins were against teams with losing records: Clark Atlanta, Elizabeth City State, Allen University and Lincoln (Pa.)
Williams guided the Blue Bears to a 5-4 record in 2015, the best finish since the Rudy Abrams era in the late 1990s. But LC couldn’t sustain the momentum, and hasn’t had a winning record since. Williams’ release puts the HBCU coaching vacancy list at five: Benedict, Central State, Fort Valley State, Howard and Livingstone.
• New sheriff in town: New Florida State athletics director Kortne Gosha will receive a three-year contract with a base salary of $200,000 that was approved by the FAMU Board of Trustees. Incentives will be added if the department achieves a balance budget in each of the three years.
