Virginia Union robbed

Posted by: Editor-Bonitta Best on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 12:00:00 am

Virginia Union women were dropped to the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Region and will have to travel to Glenville, West Virginia, for the NCAA Tournament.

The Panthers were ranked No. 1 for the final few weeks of the regular season, including heading into the CIAA Tournament. VUU demolished Fayetteville State in the championship game, and for its efforts, the team has to travel. Glenville State was given the No. 1 seed and is the host school. The Panthers will play No. 7 seed Edinboro, a team they beat 79-58 during the regular season, on March 15.

Bowie State women earned their second straight tourney appearance with the No. 6 seed. The Bulldogs will take on No. 3 seed Indiana (Pa.). BSU advanced to the Sweet 16 last season. If both VUU and BSU win, they will face each other in the next round.

In the SIAC, tourney champs Lane College is the No. 8 seed and will square off against No. 1 seed Florida Southern.

On the men’s side, Virginia State is seeded No. 3 and will face No. 6 seed Notre Dame (Ohio) in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Miles College of the SIAC will meet No. 1 seed Nova Southeastern.
