Week's TV game schedules

Posted by: Editor-Bonitta Best on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 12:00:00 am

This week’s HBCU TV games got started early Thursday night with No. 3 Sam Houston State visiting Prairie View A&M on ESPNU. SHSU won the game 44-31. Jackson State travels to Tennessee State in the Southern Heritage Classic on Fox Sports Southeast at 7 p.m. That could be a good one.

SWAC ESPN3 Saturday games:

Alabama State at Troy, 6 p.m.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Akron, 6:30 p.m.

Mississippi Valley State at Southern Illinois, 7 p.m.

In the MEAC, Hampton vs. Delaware State game tonight is the earliest conference start since 2012. Two teams play FBS opponents this weekend: Savannah State at Appalachian State and Howard at Kent State. If I had to bet on one to win, I’d say…it’s not the Tigers. If Howard does “upset” KSU tomorrow, that will be two straight losses to MEAC teams after N.C. A&T won last season. Think the MEAC will get any more invites? Hurricane Irma caused one cancellation in South Carolina State at Charleston Southern.

MEAC ESPN3 games:

SSU at Appalachian State, 3:30 p.m.

Howard at Kent State, 3:30 p.m.

Shaw at N.C. Central, 6 p.m.

Over in the SIAC, Tuskegee’s impressive victory over FCS Alabama State last weekend put its matchup against conference opponent Albany State in the White Water Classic on ESPN3 Saturday night.
